Feijoa sellowiana (O.Berg) O.Berg
MyrtaceaeA small, slow-growing tree from South America (Uruguay, southern Brazil and northern Argentina), this myrtaceae with aromatic edible fruits and flowers is also known as the Brazilian guava tree.
Its scientific name is a double homage to Brazil and its botany. It was named Feijoa by the illustrious German botanist Otto Karl Berg in honour of João da Silva Feijó, a Brazilian botanist of the 18th century (today it is recommended to use the genus Acca). Sellowiana in memory of the German Friedrich Sellow who was one of the first botanical explorers of Brazil.
